Fourmile Canyon Fire Distribution Center to change hands today Center will close for one week (10/15-10/21) while community nonprofits take over management Boulder County, Colo. – The Fourmile Canyon Distribution Center, which was established to collect donations from the community and provide clothing and household goods to residents impacted by the recent wildfire, will undergo a transition in management this week as the center moves toward serving additional members of the community beginning Friday, Oct. 22. Established by Colorado Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (COVOAD) and managed by the disaster relief group Adventists Community Service Organization in response to the Fourmile Canyon Fire, the distribution center has been open daily for more than a month to serve residents who were affected by the fire. “The county is truly grateful to the tireless efforts of COVOAD and the Adventists organization which kept the center operating daily and greeted everyone who came in with a warm smile and a supportive welcome during this very difficult time in peoples’ lives,” said Robin Bohannan, Director of Boulder County’s Community Services Department. Bohannan has helped oversee the Fire Assistance Center for the county, which has provided over $30,000 in cash and rental assistance to fire victims since September 9, in partnership with Foothills United Way, Elevations Credit Union and the Boulder Area Realtors Association. Due to the charitable outpouring of contributions by area residents, the distribution center is currently stocked with more items than have been claimed, or appear to be needed, by victims of the fire. As a result, the center will close for one week at the end of the business day on Thursday, Oct. 14, and will reopen on Friday, Oct. 22 to continue to serve residents impacted by the fire as well as clients of human service safety net organizations who struggle daily with basic needs. Volunteers will be available to support Fourmile Canyon Fire area residents with continued access to goods that have been donated to the center by the community. These include new and gently used clothing, bedding, cleaning supplies, furniture, household items, hygiene items, school and office supplies, towels, and other items as they are available. The center is no longer accepting additional donations. Beginning Oct. 22 the hours of the center (located at 5395 Pearl Parkway in Boulder) will shift to the following schedule:
The reopened center will be co-managed by three of the community’s human service safety net agencies: Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA), Sister Carmen Community Center, and the OUR Center. This local community-based partnership ensures continued access by residents impacted by the fire, and due to the overwhelming generosity of the community, it will also meet additional needs in Boulder County. The site will remain at 5395 Pearl Parkway (next to Sunbelt Rentals) until mid-November when it will move to the Sister Carmen Community Center Thrift Store. Continued free access to items for fire-impacted residents will continue as long as supplies are available. Residents receiving case management from the safety net organizations will be provided vouchers for limited access to donated items. |
