Longs Peak Creates Unique, 21st Century Partnership With Home Schoolers

This fall, families will combine home school instruction with public school course offerings.

(Longmont) July 30, 2008 – Longs Peak Middle School’s principal, Matt Buchler, has created a unique synthesis out of two areas that have previously been viewed as poles apart from each other – the public school system and home schooling.

This fall, home school families will be able to enroll their children for a partial-day schedule at the school, thus allowing parents to supplement the home school curriculum with two or more core or electives courses.

“The historical boundaries and definitions of education are fading rapidly as our society moves into the 21st century,” Buchler says. “This partnership will allow us to provide experiences for home schooled students that are difficult to provide outside of a school building. Courses like band, orchestra, and choir, as well as some of our more unique core and electives offerings, such as school newspaper, are good examples.”
