Another season of evening ArtWalk events will begin in a few short weeks. This great Longmont event now stretches over 4 blocks from 3rd and Main all the way down to just past 6th Avenue. The organizers have stretched it just a little longer past 6th to include several new businesses. The event which includes side streets of 4th and 5th Avenues, promotes artists, musicians, businesses and oh yea, there's a ton of food all along the way.

ArtWalk (Formerly called ArtWalk) is a walking ART/Music tour that brings people into downtown Longmont for an evening stroll to enjoy local arts, music and crafts. In past years, several community organizations and other non-profit agencies can also be found amongst the different booths and vendors, as well as, artists who were out doing live demonstration of their unique crafts from painting to pottery.

People are encouraged to pick up an ArtWalk MAP and get WALKING! The map, which is produced for each event, lists the 30 plus venues for visitors to stop and browse and enjoy the music, art and entertainment along the way. Many of the local businesses stay open late to be a part of this community event and host the art that is displayed in their establishments. Those businesses have a large yellow ArtWalk banner in front of their establishment to help people recognize the next stop along the walking tour. Some businesses offer special discounts on food and drink, while others just enjoy opening their doors for the evening.

There have been a couple of ArtWalk events where the promoters have closed Main Street but what they found was that people then were not always finding their way into the businesses where the real ART/MUSIC was display. Leaving the roads open, promotes the use of the sidewalks and the downtown businesses to welcome you into their individual 'art galleries'.

So, when you go to the next ArtWalk - grab that map and start walking! That's when the party begins. See you at the next one! ~ Susan Wolak, Webmaster
